Day 179 - Tendonitis

So Mama finally got answers about her wrist pain this past week. At first, Mama thought it was carpal tunnel so she wore a brace to help with the pain. Once she met up with the Hand Doctor some questions were answered. Mama doesn't have carpal tunnel. She has tendonitis, which is common to new moms due to repeated motions such as picking up your baby. How can you tell the difference between carpal tunnel and tendonitis? Easy, if you have carpal tunnel you feel numbness and Mama didn't feel that. The Hand Doctor worked his magic by giving Mama a VERY PAINFUL steroid injection. According to Mama, here's the order of pain in medical treatments...steroid shot, IV, epidural. When you receive an epidural, they localize you first so you don't feel it coming in. When you get a steroid shot, they just stick a long needle and inject the goods. Now Mama has to wear a hard plastic custom-made brace that prevents her from moving her thumb for three weeks. And to think, Mama thought the worst pain was over after delivery. Hopefully surgery will not be an option. You're not alone Mama!

How cute! I had terrible carpal tunnel during pregnancy. Luckily, that has subsided now. I hope your wrist starts feeling better soon!
